COT

Read Teddy Roosevelt Quote “The Man in the Arena” Full quote can be found on Hacksaw slack page. Tied the quote into the vulnerability it takes sometimes in our lives to be the man in the arena versus the ease of being the critic. In order to grow, we must show vulnerability and also allow others to feel comfortable being vulnerable when interacting with us. Talked about how vulnerability is a sign of courage and not weakness as often perceived. In our everyday lives, we must find ways to step outside of our comfort zone to improve ourselves and our relationships with those around us. Added in how vulnerable everyone was coming out this morning in the rain and running through the puddles. El Chapo added in that he and Sousa neither one could see running the path in the rain and dark so they were vulnerable in that instance but showed courage to speak up and run together to lead each other through the unknown.

Moleskin

Gosh, I feel like there were 20 moleskins in this one. Certainly a memorable day in the gloom.

For starters, on our mosey to begin the workout, we noticed a fish a good 50 yards from the nearby creek swimming in a puddle. We were able to see the fish and was able to take him back to his home without harm. Hence, the DORA was changed to DORY in honor of the Pixar Nemo films.

The path to the circle around the flagpoles is uncrossable after a full day of rain.

“The blind leading the blind” Running in the rain and dark lead to some sight issues for some PAX. They were able to run together and lead each other through without injury.

Halfway through the workout, it sounded like a cannon went off. There was a car accident no more than 50 yards from our exercise spot. Prayers for all of those involved noted in the prayer requests.

    COT

Shared a word about being present and living in the moment. While doing some homework with my six year old, we had to find something outside/in the woods to use our 5 senses (see, smell, etc.) She found a rose bush and decided to use that one for smell. At the end of the assignment, it asked her to say a 2-3 sentence prayer and she ended with “Thank you God for letting daddy smell the roses with me”. Really got me thinking about the old cliche to stop and smell the roses. No matter how fast and stressful life is, it really pays to slow down sometimes and really be present and alive in the current moment. Left PAX with one final thought to challenge themselves to be present and slow down in as many situations as possible each day whether it be with spouses, kids, co-workers, etc. This allows us to listen, show compassion, and be the man that God created us to be.

Prayed specifically for El Chapo’s brother, Vera Hope, and all of those affected by this hurricane season, specifically this week with Hurricane Sally.

    Moleskin

When I planned the workout, forecast showed downpours, not as much rain as I thought it would be but we still got a nice damp ground for exercises on our six. Also, Sally is not fun regardless, but definitely not fun after IP week 3 which included 300 push-ups.

      COT

Ephesians 4:32: Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as Christ God forgave you. Talked about showing compassion to those around us and forgiving others even when it may be tough to do.

Led with a thought to keep in mind when dealing with relationship conflict: It is easier to be compassionate when we always assume those we are dealing with are doing the best they can in the current situations in their lives. While this may not always hold true, it teaches us lessons of compassion and forgiveness to stick by it. This doesn’t mean don’t build each other us with constructive criticism or hold each other accountable, instead do it in a loving and wholehearted way. This could invite growth and transformation in all relationships including our relationship with ourselves.

Always remember we don’t forgive people because they deserve it, we forgive them because they need it!

      • It was decided that John Doe must do 10 burpees per PAX (total of 120) due to circumstances surrounding his disappearance
