The PAX began our beatdown at the Hot Gates by counting off and running out to the 11th lamp post.  Each PAX depending on their number would get to chose an exercise to perform starting with eleven at the last lamp post.  The PAX then ran to the tenth lamp post and performed ten of the respective exercise, nine at the ninth, and so on until reaching the Hot Gates. We were only able to get through four PAX before our time ran out.

CIRCLE OF TRUST:  As a manager, this time of year has a special significance for me as I have to conduct annual reviews which financially impact people’s lives.  While I understand that I’m reviewing the performance of those who work for me, I play a tremendous role in their success.   As leaders, we have a responsibility to make sure we are leading and not managing so that those who are subordinate to us are motivated, equipped, and have every opportunity to achieve success.  Lead from the front and lead by example, you never know what impact that will have on those around you.

There seemed to be an inordinate amount of Land Mines around the Greenway Saturday.  The definition of a Land Mine is: Any unwanted and unhygienic foreign object littering the Area of Operation that would cause the PAX to potentially strip off articles of clothing should they inadvertently wallow in or come in contact with while performing an exercise.  Common examples of Land Mines are dog turds and discarded prophylactics.

The Thang – Millenial

Goal is a total count of 2000 total reps as a team. The full pax does 100 reps each of a called exercise, then runs a 100m lap back to a point where they gather again for the next called exercise. There will be 10 cycles, which get you to your number. Teamwork matters. The first nine cycles end when the FIRST person gets to 100, which keeps the pax together. The last cycle, which is always burpees, is done together (We ended up doing Burpees for a solid 4 minutes before time ended.
Cycles: 1) SSH; 2) Lunges; 3) Merkins; 4) LBCs; 5) Mtn. Climbers; 6) Flutters; 7) Imperial Walkers; 8) Squats; 9) Oblique Crunches – 50 per side; 10) Burpees.  Named as year 2000 is within the time period around which the Millenial generation was born.
Let me say the mumble chatter was strong today, and mostly because Radio-Head saved me from being up close and personal with a “Land-Mine.”  In this case it was a spent condom!  I of course directed everyone to move several feet from that point!  From that point forward, the barbs and jabs were flying!  At one point I recall Mr. Clean threaten to stuff Geek Squad into that “Land-Mine”…and of course there were a few, “That’s what she said” as well.  All in all it was a fun and enjoyable workout!

Came from today’s reading from “Forward Day by Day”:  Psalm 37:1,3. Do not fret yourself because of evildoers; do not be jealous of those who do wrong.  Put your trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and feed on it’s riches.
Most days I haven’t been out of bed very long before I catch sight of a headline on my phone or the front page of the newspaper and plunge headlong into fretting because of evildoers.  This seems a particularly dark time in our country.
Surely, we aren’t supposed to let evil have it’s way while we sit back and wait for God to make the bad guys “wither like the grass.”
The psalmist’s advice is quite clear: Trust in the Lord. God is in charge of the endgame.  Do good, boldly resist evil, and work for justice, mercy, and peace.  We are reassured that “there is a future for the peaceable,” and “the future of the wicked is cut off.”
Trust. Do good. Don’t fret.

This morning I shared a few words about forgiveness. I’ve often felt that it takes a lot of courage to show vulnerability, so here goes:
This past week I vacationed for my Dad’s birthday with my older brother and a couple of cousins. It brought to mind some of the issues of the past, from a relationship perspective. I’ve got a great Dad, there’s no issues there, and my brother is my big brother and he was kind of like a younger version of my Dad. There have been moments, though, where I’ve been underwhelmed as a son in how a situation was handled. Times where there was lack of support, complete lack of consideration or -the worst- just feeling like you’re second-best in someone’s eyes. In those times, I’d often reflect and question why. Not understanding why there was not much of a connection or just that you were “in the way.” This was difficult at a young age to have to navigate.
In those times, it was my mother who would offer very poignant advice in an extremely simple and efficient way; “Turn the other cheek”, or, “Kill them with kindness”, or “Don’t show them how much it hurts you, show them how much you still care”, she’d say. These simple (yet effective) musings have made a profound impact on me as a person and still do.  And when executed properly, work without fail.
Anyone who knows me, knows that forgiveness is something that I can’t live without. I find myself asking for forgiveness more often times than I deserve to receive. 
I recently read that the simple phrase, “Vengeance is mine” is mentioned in 27 verses in scripture (e.g. Proverbs, Deuteronomy, Romans, Paul’s letters, Gospels, etc). I’m not a super intelligent guy, but if something is mentioned that many times, I say it’s probably worthwhile advice. These three words, are enough for me to take with me into daily battle knowing that I’m not alone, that we have a Father who loves us and cares for us and that He alone will handle the dirty work. It’s our job to follow the example his Son illustrated time and time again by forgiving others, as they will inevitably fall short of expectation.

We talked a lot about Mental Toughness this morning and why it’s important. Those who excel in whatever endeavor they take on aren’t necessarily the most skilled, the smartest or the most physically gifted, it’s those who have built up mental toughness or “grit” through the focused discipline of being consistent to do those things that need to be done to get better. They are the one’s that push themselves beyond what they think they are capable and continuously do the hard things that make them better. I Challenged everyone to get out of your comfort zone and do something that maybe you’ve been thinking about but haven’t taken the steps to start. Look for an area in each of the F’s to get out of your comfort zone and do in order to make yourself better. Set Goals, Grind it out when it feels impossible, Fail and then get right back up and persevere. A big task or goal may look too big at the beginning but you get there one day at a time through baby steps.

YHC sailed away with most Q’s in 2018 (by a wide margin), and while I am proud of that, it always nagged at me that the guy responsible for getting me out there was never able to attend a single one of those Q’s.
The streak finally ended this morning.  Pumpkin came back, and frankly, in spite of exhaustion and sickness, the excitement over this gave me extra Qdrenaline.
The WOD is this: persistence. With help from Geek Squad, the persistence paid off and a HIM finally returned to the Gloom.  This is, of course, on the heels of the return of both Saddlebags and Snowflake! The challenge this week, especially with this crazy weather, is to remain persistence and deliberate in everything you do.

I have been thinking a lot about my goals lately, most specifically how I can better position myself to accomplish them. We all operate under some combination of deep duty and surface passion, but where ever we fall in thy ratio our actions are based on a series of beliefs. So in an effort to accomplish some deep goals in my recovery, marriage and relationship with God and my community I have been trying to focus on my honest and truthful priorities. What are the things I value most?
I want to encourage you all to think about this, and what that means for your everyday lives. For me it means a turning in its head of some of my regular priorities, and – though I am not good at it yet – I’m learning that some of the simpler mundane practices of devotions, exercise, washing dishes and clothes, and taking deep breaths are those that I must prioritize so that I can best pursue being the son, husband and self that I long and was indeed made to be.
Other important thing still have significant weight in where and how I invest my time talent and treasure, but less at the cost of those things I used to find less appealing. So I appeal to you to think about what you most care for and desire and how that must impact your everyday lives.

Various exercises are written at each of the light posts along with a handy capped means of moving from one pole to the next.
1.  The PAX performes the exercise OYO and those that finish early proceed to the next pole using the handy capped means of moving.
2.  When the SIX is done with the exercise the entire PAX will run from their location to the next pole
