Had the opportunity to serve at the Chubby’s BBQ homeless ministry on 10/20. Being part of something like this will always make you grateful for what you have been given. Most of the people we served were very grateful for what was being provided to them. Denny (spelling?) is an amazing lady to provide this every wee, and allow F3 to partner with her. Would encourage anyone to sign up to help out. I’m the type of person that will want to do this, but until I put it on the calendar…will continue to put it off. So, go sign up for a Tuesday night!

Be thankful for what you have and don’t take anything for granted. Your health, family, job, and whatever else. Don’t look with jealousy to those with more, but see those with less and appreciate what you have.

My health took a turn 6 weeks ago when my knee gave out on me. I was unhappy I couldn’t live in my normal routine and exercise. With time, I have decided this injury happened for a reason. Maybe God was telling me to slow down and be thankful for the position I was in.

    Moleskin

Power walking means both feet are never off the ground at the same time. If so, you are jogging.

My Bluetooth speaker decided to modify this workout and not work for the Girls, Girls, Girls song.

The power walking was about the only modification today. I may start including this more often to sharpen the form of the PAX

      The Thang

      Structural Support

Wall sit with alternating leg raises in cadence (sort of a squat-march type of thing) x 10 IC, then performed slightly declined WMDs (with feet up on high curb, performed 5 each or wide, regular, and diamond merkins).

      Short Circuitry

40 seconds on, 20 seconds off with the following circuit of exercises, performed with coupons: squat into overhead press, lawn mowers (reverse lunge with row at the end on one side, then repeat on the other side for the next circuit), deadlift into biceps curl, and American hammers. We ran a lap around the upper track after completion of the circuit, and we repeated this glorious cycle 2 more times.

Additional Structural Support, Cobra Kai Style

We revisited the wall at the end of the Detention Facility to provide further structural support with more wall sitting, this time throwing alternating jabs and then alternating upper cuts x 10 IC, followed by knuckle pushups x 10 IC.

      Circle O’ Mary

We then circled up on our sixes and went around the circle, where each PAX called out an ab exercise for our mutual enjoyment. Mr. Clean treated us to reverse lunge/flutter kick combos, Blue tortured us with American Thors (BBS with American Hammers at the end), Running Man mixed it up with BBS with alternating jabs at the end, and Dundee brought us home with Peter Parkers.

I borrowed some thoughts from the Q Source pertaining to the foundational leadership principle of Disruption, and I spoke briefly about the idea that a leader disrupts his followers by moving them from a state of stagnation to a place of advantage. Good leaders do this while present with others, great leaders motivate others to do this even when he is not around, but the best leaders seek to leave a legacy of movement from stagnation to advantage that lasts beyond their lifetimes. To achieve this legacy, a leader’s love for his followers must exceed his love for himself. “The great leader knows that if his love is not great, then neither will be his leadership.”

Something that’s been on my heart lately is how the world sees Christians. I read something or heard something a few weeks ago, “Christianity isn’t about being right”. That has stuck with me and come up so many times since then. A couple other points that have been impactful to myself are……”Christianity is about transformation not morality” and “It’s interesting that YOUR religion is the TRUE one”. Just a few things that have been weighing on my heart as I continue to figure out who I am as a child of God, a husband, a father. These are thoughts meant to just make you think. Sweet

      Conditions

A beautiful morn dimly lit with a 3% waning crescent hint of illumination. Temperature held its consistency at 59 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale for the duration of the hour (that is a solid 15 Celsius for those who like to keep tabs on the centigrade scale…it remains 15 Celsius even for those who do not keep tabs. That is the nature of temperature; it is verifiable whether one is interested or not). Wind listed upon our faces from the SW at 3mph. Wind, however, is less exact of a science than thermometry, what with the existence of gusts and such. Old School (Respect) suggested the wind was coming in through the gloom at 5mph, possibly 4.5. Humidity was 80%, solid B-, but it’s not about the grade. It’s really whether or not the humidity did its best. Dew Point at 53 degrees, which must explain the mild moisture on the six during LBCs. Not too wet, not too dry; like a good bowl of porridge, just right. Barometric pressure came in at 29.95 in, which made a 35lb block feel like 35.8574lbs. UV Index at 0. One truly has to hand it to the UV Index showing up and literally not providing a single ounce of ultraviolet radiation. If there is a Sad Clown out there, who in the deepest recesses of their heart wants to get better yet the fear of sunburn is holding them back, then F3 is for them. It remains an integral part of the F3 evangelistic mission to encourage others to get better and what better way to make that happen than look awkwardly into another man’s eye and say, “If you come out to the gloom, I promise you, it is impossible to get a sunburn.” If we cannot stay safe from the sun, then what do we have? Men, what do we have? (whisper). But really, it’s not a cult. Visibility for Hamilton County was at a solid 10 miles. This was surprising as we could see Polaris, which is a good 433 lightyears away (one lightyear=5.88 trillion miles). So, YHC is no optometrist, but possibly the one in charge of recording Hamilton county visibility data needs contacts. But, we are on the mountain (ridge), after all. In sum, it felt great this morning.

Psalm 90:12 – Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. The span of our life is set, although we do not know what that set time may be. Therefore, let us live each present day in light of that day and seek to gain wisdom from above. Wisdom (from a Bible perspective) is the skill or ability to live in God’s world according to God’s way. He promises to grant it to those who ask. And recognizing the fleeting nature of time, it serves us well to gain a heart of wisdom each day.

The Gloom is a place where one can go to enjoy the existential betterment of body and mind. Like life’s circumstances, not everything learned among men early in the morning is easy to receive. The gloom is no place for the solipsistic; there is a world beyond the self, and it is not always pretty. Ample time was directed to the harsh realities around us as seasons come and seasons go. And how the changing seasons affect the Snowman. Guys, summers are not good toward the formations of the wintry mix. The next time you step in a puddle, the next time you see a lone carrot glistening in the grass, the next time you see a random button nose, ask yourself, “where have the child’s dreams gone? what has become of what once stood honorably in this place?” Does not the demise of the snowman at the season’s shift call forth the words of Ozymandias for all to hear? Also, a rubric, that established mode of conduct or procedure, yea, one might even dare to say protocol, helps to guide the PAX. Any workout directed by rubric and abacus when the sun dial strikes 5:15am is sure to instill courage and chivalry among those that arose for such a time as this.

The Word of the Day: Totis Viribus: an English adverbial phrase of Latin origin meaning, with all one’s might. I think it is safe to say that the PAX sauntered into the gloom with strength and determination to give it there all; to strive totis viribus. For the linguistic soft spot that resides in all, this word is an ablative of manner.

“The issue of faith is not so much whether we believe in God, it is whether we believe the God we believe in.”

Shot House got its name through the connection with Hixson High School formerly being the sight for vaccinations for the surrounding community.

Ironically, we are in a time when many are begging for a vaccines to take care of the “Covid-19 Problem.”

Shot House, as the AO, developed as a need after this recent exponential growth in F3 Chattanooga. YHC has no doubt our own Prosciutto could provide some awesome data about the growth patterns, but to the naked eye, YHC sees even further irony…

This exponential growth occurred directly after we were quarantined from this virus in which we search for a vaccine.

While we still search for a Covid-19 vaccine, we clearly see that ALL of F3 Chattanooga is vaccinating what is known as “Sad Clown Syndrome”. This post quarantine era has proven what we already knew: men struggle with loneliness and need something to aid with this struggle, and they need exercise in their lives to help them contend this loneliness.

F3 provides all of these things, so as we close today, YHC asks: where are all of those guys that came out? are they still posting regularly? are YOU connecting with them?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then please continue to remember this is more than a workout, and if you answered no to any of these, then once again, remember it is more than a workout and try to reach out to those that need it.

I’m not trying to change anyone’s mind, just make you think. These are questions for inner dialogue, nothing more. What is prayer? One of my favorite spiritual leaders/authors has said that the west has made prayer into something functional………..something we do to try and manipulate God into doing/giving us what WE want. Consider that prayer is a constant union with God. 1 Thessalonians 5:16, Paul tells us to “pray without ceasing”. We can’t walk around all the time in prayer like I was taught growing up, so maybe there’s something I’m missing about prayer. Lately I’ve been dealing with a lot more sadness over my fathers “deathday” anniversary than in previous years, but my “constant union with God” has definitely helped. I try not to “ask” God for specific things anymore. But when I do, I know that the answer might be “no”. Here’s a line from a movie I found very thought provoking. “God gives us the answers we would ask for, if we knew what He knows”

It was a smaller group this morning due to the county school system’s Fall Break and vacations. It was great having a smaller number of PAX so we had more camaraderie. Lots of “TWSS’s” and general mumble chatter. Mostly the PAX wondered about the guy who thought up the Q for this morning. There were at least 2 10 counts called at each end of the track. Everyone was definitely feeling the pain. All in all by the end the PAX enjoyed the simplicity of the beatdown.

Jacob Hancher aka Hightower from F3 Grandstrand (Myrtle Beach) is being remembered by a lot of regions this week. He was a police officer killed in the line of duty last week. We honored him with a moment of silence.

              Moleskin

Prosciutto made the trek from Signal Mountain. He only comes when we do stadium step workouts.
