It’s funny when inspiration hits. You see, I’m the assistant coach for my son’s 6 year-old ball club; the pay raise has been substantial! In a few instances, I’ve had the most bodacious opportunity to fill-in as head coach in his absence. Last night, as I was working with the team, I noticed many of the young boys getting upset with swinging and missing at pitches. Got me thinking about success and failure. There’s plenty of it at this age in coach pitch. I offered a bit of 36 year-old wisdom on the topic and they (in all their abundant youth) likely heard/understood half of it, if I’m being conservative on that.

As I considered my own life’s successes and failures, the fact of the matter is that success was only ever achieved through LOTS of failure. So, with that, one must be comfortable with failure if success is what you so desire. With success as your goal, seek opportunities DAILY to exit that “warm and fuzzy” comfort zone. Escape the comfort zone, step out on a ledge, do something difficult with only the goal of failure in mind. The successes will come and will be oh-so-sweet.

    Two quotes shared:

“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly” – Robert F. Kennedy

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas Edison

    Partner carries suck

Sunburn acts like he doesn’t know anything about the Spice Girls – but he “can go ‘head on with that mess” – I read that slack post yesterday. Perfect context. He’s a closet Spicer; admit it!

The response from the pax about being an assistant coach was…. let’s just say hilarious.

CIRCLE OF TRUST: I don’t watch very much television but I happened upon a show the other night where people compete in a forge to see who can create the best sword, ax, knife, etc, in a short period of time.  The forge is incredibly hot and uncomfortable, and the process of folding layers of molten metal upon each other to create a functional weapon is incredibly physical.  At one point one of the forge workers was burned and another was overcome by the heat, but none of them quit.  Watching that show had me thinking that it was a great analogy to what each of us is trying to accomplish in F3.  We all start out as a piece of raw metal.  To become what God has intended for us to be, we will have to submit ourselves to being tempered by fire and pressure.  Iron sharpens iron.
BALL OF MAN: Continued prayers for Fastlane, his wife, and their grandmother.  She suffered a minor stroke and Fastlane and his wife are providing care for her.  Prayers for WuzntMe for patience, fortitude, and wisdom as he entertains his in-laws this coming weekend.

    A Good Recovery:

Many of us have specific things that have happened to us and that w have gotten ourselves into that require some specific attention, Praise God, and all of us have a disposition that at times makes really stupid decisions.

In all of these, we must employ some basic discipline and seek to grow from the inside out, from our hearts, and I believe we are given the strength to do this when the time is right – perhaps today is your day. Whenever that day comes to realize that there are three basic tenants to a good recovery, and these happen to parallel what is also good for our broken, unique, complex everyday lives.

    They are:

    • Motivation based, in its healthiest form, of being a better you. Not just white knuckle duty bound actions but humble, thankful, hopeful, and anticipatory obedience and engagement. You find that you simply want to be who you are meant (created) to be and remove all barriers to that. It means some unraveling of who that is and a lot of unlearning false self-narratives. As you get serious about being that orders you will also become more outwardly focused (God and neighbor), but the baseline idea is that you have to get convinced and committed to being you.
    • Life Balance (holistic) to being healthy and happy; less cortisol (stress), the right sleep, more energy. Big and little shifts; dailies habits fall under this. This creates trust when it’s observed by a spouse. These are things that actually make you feel good in your regular structure, and these structures that shouldn’t be let go of when you leave that regular context for a time (travel, vaca, break) and can even provide super presence by continuing to execute even if it’s a little different. All this creates an ability to live in the present in vulnerable places to self, God and others.

Some intentional movements that fall under this category regularly are:

      • Exercise – where you are physically learning to overcome pain, like in recovery, and release stress, and build self-confidence.
      • Spiritually – time in the Bible; connection to your higher power and a revelation of our hearts.
      • Emotionally – connection to others. Meditation.

These little things can be what shifts recovery because you won’t be able to do these seemingly mundane things unless my motivation is right behind them. So if you can do this there is alignment at the base.

    • Cognitive Phycological Engagement: you start to notice your triggers and how you behave naturally out of your emotional mind. How to keep from being mindless (numbing) and not just letting your brain do its thing. Founding boundaries. “I actually do experience dozens of emotions a day.” Another tool is the spike narrative (a narrative in your head that exasperates your emotions towards impairments with lies, that you must learn to identify and step back from to reduce reactions and increase acceptance, induce management and increase responses. Managing thoughts and emotions so you can have behaviors). Again, this ties to your intentions, which you can’t truly be mindful about unless your willing to engage the deeper heart of the matter.

It’s easy to see how we can help each other with life balance, but there is an easy way in which we can help each other. In motivation and knowing our hearts, too. I learned an old Hebrew word this last week Ayeka, and in use it asks, “where are you?” Not just in a physical sense, be that legitimately important, but in an emotional and spiritual sense, too. The term construes longing, even sadness from the asker, and am authentic curiosity. This is the term God spoke to Adam in the garden of Eden after He first sinned, and it’s also a term we can speak to each other to both shows a tangible interest in that other man and his inherent divinity and reminds Him that the God of the Universe is keenly desirous to have his heart as well. Now that’s some motivation!

So think about the ways your engaging living and being better well, and those you might need some work in; think alps of those people in your life you can and should ask where they are at too, then pick one today and do it. Be an active listener and watch the fellowship we were created to do its work.

    Moleskin

Recovery is a shit ton of work, though it’s better than addiction and more important than working out which is already something you get up and do regularly.

This morning I talked about the importance of knowing your WHY in everything you do. What is the why behind your work? What is the why behind your marriage? What is the why behind your F3 commitment? What is the why behind your parenting? If you don’t know why you’re doing something then it’s just being done without any meaning behind it. Know the why (motivation) and it will can change your outlook on it and your attitude toward it. Don’t just exist, make your life meaningful by knowing your WHY! ***Burpee Bus x 2 1/2 during COT) ***

            Moleskin

After our quick mosey and warm up at the front parking lot we found Peanuts wandering the park. I’m not sure if a drug deal went down (this is the Southside) or if he was shopping at Food City but he found us.

With Ascot’s upcoming wedding I opened up opportunity to any marriage advise. Great words of advise from Candu, Ironbutt & VSquared.

There was some chatter early on but by the time we got to the tennis courts it got pretty quite. Although, Candu is always good for some choice words when another round of lunges is called out or the Burpee Bus drives by.

            News

Candu is on Q at Lions Den tomorrow. Moondance has a brand-new 2.0. Congratulation. Ascot is getting married Friday evening. (Give me grandkids)

Thanks for playing, it was fun!

Surprisingly little MC this morning. We all wondered where Peanuts had gone.

There was a golden opportunity to poke fun at Threeskin when he opted to modify and lunge instead of bear crawl.

              COT

CIRCLE OF TRUST: F3 has been a very consistent and positive part of my life since I started posting back in December. I’m a better husband, father, and man of God. I’ve made some strong friendships, and I’ve also gotten in the best shape of my life. We talk a lot about bringing FNGs and including new people, but have we named and thanked the man who invited us and put us in the EH in the first place? PAX went around the circle and said who brought them, so as to better know each man’s story. Props for Whittler and Back Pew who found F3 on their own.

BALL OF MAN: Laces Out led us out. Thanks were said for the day, and the week that is, and any and all travel we may take for the holiday weekend.

Let’s go ahead and get it out of the way; Yes…. the FNG merlot splashed (only at the very end though!).

FNG’s last name is Rogers. His FNG story went in this order:
              1) Name given
              2) Grew up in Alabama; Sand Mountain
              3) actually went to U of Alabama and graduated. Color me surprised
              4) Electrical engineer doing electrical things for work which include electricity
              5) Is Saved; (note – no snakes mentioned in the story)
              6) Might(?) be related to Mr. Rogers, the famous TV show host
**Immediately after the story, fellow Roll Tide alum (Ringwald) noted the order sequence in which we were given the specifics of his story; suggested this underscores the importance to an Alabama native. To which, Laces Out replies, “Sometimes ya gotta hit rock bottom before you get saved.” nailed it

              – Anything Bulgarian = Candu’s sweet-spot corner pocket

              – Landslide and Skitch are really fast. REALLY fast.

              – While it was completely warranted – not a single 10 count happened

              – Kickball on Saturday morning. HC now if you haven’t so that Ringwald can get the numbers figured out. Apparently it’s important.
