CoT

I push myself and compete with myself on form constantly. I would rather take the entire 45 min workout to do 10 Merkins w/ perfect form than do 100 Merkins poorly. To add or piggyback on to Nordic Track’s CoT from last week about Kissinger, I always strive to make sure I’m doing my best in everything I do, whether its Merkins or taking out the garbage. These workouts with F3 are supposed to be the “hardest thing we have to do each day”. If we can get through a workout, the rest of our day is a breeze. So if I cut a corner, or two, or three, etc during my workout……….what’s the rest of my day going to look like? Will I cut a corner somewhere else when it “gets too hard”?

CoT

Copying my CoT from Monday at Detention, I focus on form quite a bit. I give Burrito lots and lots of grief over his form not because I am competing with him, but because I genuinely want him to get better. One of the ideas of F3 is that each workout is supposed to be the hardest thing we have to do each day so that the rest of our day is a breeze. If I “cut a corner”, aka sacrifice form, because it gets too hard during the workout………..what will the rest of my day look like if something comes up that seems to be “too hard for me to handle”? Will I cut a corner? What will that situation be……my work? My family? My responsibilities?

Remain in plank position the whole time. Bear crawl forward 4 steps, do 1 merkin, 1 plank jack, and tap the BACK of each shoulder 1 time. Repeat adding 1 rep to each exercise each time – bear crawl forward 4 steps, do 2 merkins, 2 plank jacks, 2 sets of back of shoulder taps… etc. Go until you get to 10 reps each, you’ve covered 30-50 feet, or until your arms fall off – whichever comes first. Mosey back to corner of track.

Lt. Dan

Punishing leg exercise that is a cousin (of sorts) to Jack Webb. Named after Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, it combines 1 squat followed by 4 lunges (alternating legs) in ascending order (maintaining the 1:4 ratio). It will leave the PAX feeling like “they ain’t got no legs”. Start with 1 squat 4 lunges, mosey to next corner of track, 2 squats 8 lunges, mosey to next corner of track……..continue to 8 squats 32 lunges, mosey to starting corner of track.

Quarter Mile Monkey Humper

25 Monkey Humpers, mosey to next corner, 25 Gorilla Humpers, mosey to next corner, 25 Monkey Humpers, mosey to last corner, 25 Gorilla Humpers Q controlled up/downs.

The Hightower

As the Nation knows, F3GrandStrand lost Jacob “Hightower” Hancher this past weekend as he was serving as a Myrtle Beach Police Officer. EOW: 10/03/20. We did a full workout to honor him. This is a part of the workout based on a very apropos Bible Verse: Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. So – 5 Exercises – 9 reps each. 1) Burpees 2)Bodybuilders – burpee with Plank jack 3)Triple Merkin Burpees – burpee with 3 hand release merkins 4)Triple Jump Squat Burpees – burpee with 3 jump squats 5)Putting them all together – Triple Merkin Triple Jump Squat Bodybuilders – burpee with 3 hand release merkins, plank jack, and 3 jump squats.

Mosey back to flag, 2 4×4 Burpees & a Navy Seal Burpee OYO for time.

Something that’s been on my heart lately is how the world sees Christians. I read something or heard something a few weeks ago, “Christianity isn’t about being right”. That has stuck with me and come up so many times since then. A couple other points that have been impactful to myself are……”Christianity is about transformation not morality” and “It’s interesting that YOUR religion is the TRUE one”. Just a few things that have been weighing on my heart as I continue to figure out who I am as a child of God, a husband, a father. These are thoughts meant to just make you think. Sweet

The THANG

The Deconstructed Burpee

Squats, then leg thrusts, then Merkins, then leg thrusts, then jump squats. For example, do 10 squats, 10 leg thrusts, 10 Merkins, 10 leg thrusts, then 10 jump squats. Decrease reps by 1 each time until you get to 1 each.

Gave PAX the choice of staying together or OYO, PAX chose to stay together. Not sure how to count cadence for a deconstructed burpee, but we all managed to stay roughly in unison with reps.

Start at one end of track, do 10 deconstructed burpees, mosey to other end of track, do 9 deconstructed burpees, mosey to other end, do 8 deconstructed burpees, mosey, deconstructed burpees, etc etc etc until down to 1 deconstructed burpees. To finish the last 2 min left, we did 2 4×4 burpees. Moseyed back to the parking lot.

CoT

I’m not trying to change anyone’s mind, just make you think. These are questions for inner dialogue, nothing more. What is prayer? One of my favorite spiritual leaders/authors has said that the west has made prayer into something functional………..something we do to try and manipulate God into doing/giving us what WE want. Consider that prayer is a constant union with God. 1 Thessalonians 5:16, Paul tells us to “pray without ceasing”. We can’t walk around all the time in prayer like I was taught growing up, so maybe there’s something I’m missing about prayer. Lately I’ve been dealing with a lot more sadness over my fathers “deathday” anniversary than in previous years, but my “constant union with God” has definitely helped. I try not to “ask” God for specific things anymore. But when I do, I know that the answer might be “no”. Here’s a line from a movie I found very thought provoking. “God gives us the answers we would ask for, if we knew what He knows”

Moleskin

It was a smaller group this morning due to the county school system’s Fall Break and vacations. It was great having a smaller number of PAX so we had more camaraderie. Lots of “TWSS’s” and general mumble chatter. Mostly the PAX wondered about the guy who thought up the Q for this morning. There were at least 2 10 counts called at each end of the track. Everyone was definitely feeling the pain. All in all by the end the PAX enjoyed the simplicity of the beatdown.

CoT

Keeping it short and sweet. I struggled with what to talk about this morning. I kept trying to make it harder and more complicated than it needed to be. I felt like the Spirit was leading me to keep with my latest CoT’s and speak to Being Still. I get so focused on what I “have” to do, what I “should” be doing, etc and I feel so guilty if I’m not being productive ALL THE TIME!!! It’s ok for us as HIM’s, leaders, fathers, whatever to take the time to just BE. Recognize that God is all around us in everything. I see God in each of the PAX faces every morning. I see God in the environment where ever I may be at any given moment. I try, and fail most of the time, to “take the time to smell the roses” so to speak. It’s ok to take that time for ourselves. Take a min each day to start, to just be Present.

Moleskin

Not much in the way of mumble chatter that I could distinguish. We were graced by Xena’s presence as he came to The Huey for the first time? Each PAX pushed themselves and I did my best as Q to motivate and encourage everyone by name.

CoT

Kept it short, sweet and to the point. The story of Martha and Mary from the gospels. If anyone is like me, then they are constantly running from here to there, worrying about this and that………what do I have to do next, who do I have to meet where, etc. Past CoT’s of mine have been about Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God”. Today is about being still and being PRESENT. Take the time each day, maybe starting with just a few second, minutes or however much you can give. Take the time to be present. Slow down. It is possible to be PRESENT without being in the PRESENCE, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to be in the PRESENCE without being PRESENT. Think about that for a bit. One last thing, not something that you need to answer out loud, this is only for you. If God were to send you a text message at this very second, what would it say? A word? A phrase? When a good friend of mine asked me that question, my answer was “BREATHE”. I needed to hear that from myself at the time, and now as well. We get so focused on everything that is going on around us, sometimes we forget to be present in the presence.

Moleskin

There was a fair bit of mumble chatter from the PAX this morning about various things. Mostly how wonderful the weather is, and then as we got started on The Thang….about how much everyone LOVED being out there for some Blue’s Q’s. I even had lots of PAX telling me how much they LOVED me and one PAX even wanted to bring me a brown bag full of some fragrant presents he collected from his dog!!! He even said he would illuminate it on my from porch so I would be sure to find it. Fun was had all around.

CoT

Short, sweet, & to the point. We as HIM’s need to take time for ourselves. We are all pulled in many directions with many responsibilities. We need to take the time, 30 secs…..3 min…….etc to just sit and Be Still. Our culture makes us feel guilty if we aren’t constantly doing something. Again for another CoT Psalm 46:10 had been on my heart. Apparently I haven’t learned the lesson yet. “Be still and know that I am GOD”

Mumble Chatter

Nothing much other than how many PAX “love” lunges. Mucho Lego’s were enjoyed all around, but a couple PAX suggested doing an 8 count cadence.

• 184 people were killed when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon

• 40 were killed on United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania

• 19 men hijacked 4 planes

• 60 percent of the World Trade Center victims’ remains have been identified as of Sept. 2019

The attacks were the deadliest terrorist act in world history, and the most devastating foreign attack on United States soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.[5]

There aren’t really any words to express the feelings/emotions of that day or what we are currently going through currently, but I find Psalm 46 to give me hope and peace.

Psalm 46

God is our (B)refuge and strength,

(C)A[a] very present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear,

Even though the earth be removed,

And though the mountains be carried into the [b]midst of the sea;

(D)Though its waters roar and be troubled,

Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah

There is a (E)river whose streams shall make glad the (F)city of God,

The holy place of the [c]tabernacle of the Most High.

God is (G)in the midst of her, she shall not be [d]moved;

God shall help her, just [e]at the break of dawn.

(H)The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;

He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

The (I)Lord of hosts is with us;

The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord,

Who has made desolations in the earth.

(J)He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;

(K)He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;

(L)He burns the chariot in the fire.

10

Be still, and know that I am God;

(M)I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!

11

The Lord of hosts is with us;

The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

Psalm 46:10 to close us out taking a knee……

Who are you? Who am I? It’s so easy to answer this question casually and not give it much thought. Most people like myself just answer with their occupation. “I am a lawyer”, “I’m a mechanic”, “I’m a _______”…………..My wife is the “bread winner” in my household. Many years ago this was very hard for me to come to terms with, but I did eventually. I figured out fairly recently “who I was”, and it did NOT matter who brought home the most money. I am a father/dad. That title encompasses many different roles……..nurse, hero, doctors, mr. fixit, chef, waiter, chauffeur, spiritual leader………. the list goes on and on. That is WHO I AM, not WHAT I DO. Who are you? This is a question that can be answered quickly, or you can delve deep and answer that question truthfully for yourself. WHO ARE YOU?
