The Thang

“DOWN!” is the cue for performing a burpee at any given moment. Maybe did about 30 total during the workout. Should have tried for at least 60.

Partnered up for a “Relay” or “Dora” or whatevs you call it

Cone 1 was starting point, cone 2 was about 15 yards distance and cone 3 was about 30 yards distance.

Run to Cone 3 and back while partner performs Aquamans. Switch off and repeat until you reach 200 Aquamans total combined. Hold Al Gore waiting on the six.

Round 2 involved Bernie to Cone 3 while partner performed Dive bombers. Same as above for a total of 100.

Round 3 involved Walking lunge to Cone 2 and partner holding plank. Complete 2 rounds each.

Circled Up for 2 Rounds of Jackie Chans with a few burpees in between for the resting minute

30 seconds each exercise: American Hammer, Leg Raises, LBC, Heel Touches, Crunchy Frog, and 100s.

Back to Cone 1 with partner:

Partner 1 performed Frogger to Cone 2 and back while Partner 2 did Sumo squats with block. Complete 2 rounds.

Cool Down: 10 count Honeycutts on each arm, 10 count forward fold

Time.

Leadership and Accountability:

Encouraged the group to sign-up for a VQ if they haven’t done so already. Even if you don’t feel ready to Q, sign-up anyways, it will motivate you to get ready. Leadership is earned through action, so uh, take action. This in turn will hopefully increase accountability. Briefly mentioned WuzntMe and I have an accountability chart we started in November to perform certain exercises every day of the month.

Burrito is known to be a leader in the Mumble Chatter category for the workouts. My goal was for the workout to be tough enough so he would be too winded to talk. I called for burpees any time he opened his mouth (at least that was the plan). This man can talk for days. No way I could have done a thousand burpess in 45 minutes. He either caught on to why I called spontaneous burpees, or he just enjoys pain. Either way, he was asking for more and more towards the end.

I later found out Burrito is a lawyer and ordained minister. I don’t think I will ever be able to keep him from talking.

This backblast was the most difficult to type and took forever due to technical difficulties. (I think I need a new computer for Christmas)

    10 burpee jump overs (the cone), 10 merkins, 10 squats

    Mosey further along the greenway sidewalk that follows the tree line about 200 yds

    Cones awaited us. 4 lines of 4 cones spaced 5 yards apart. Pax lined up shoulder to shoulder along one end.
    Round 1: Bear Crawl suicides with Crawl Bears back to the start. Fortunately for everyone crawling bear required going uphill a little.
    Round 2: Starting from the opposite end of the cones we rinsed and repeated round 1
    Round 3: Starting from same end as Rd 2, broad jump/bunny hop to second cone then 10 burpees/10 bonnie blairs/10 big boi sit-ups, broad jump/bunny hop to third cone and 10 more reps of each, same to fourth and final cone then bear crawl back to start

    We spoke about that first quadrant of the Q source: Get right. To fight off the Sad Clown Syndrom we can’t go it alone. F3 may not be the “end all be all” but it’s what has worked for thousands of guys. Fight the urge to figure it out on your own and simply get through the day. A man needs help to get right.

      Captains assigned for 9 teams of 5 PAX total.

      Each team had one man assigned to each exercise to start, exercised for 1 minute AMRAP, then 20 seconds off, rotating to the next exercise, picking up where the man before left off. Continue rounds until all required reps of all exercises are complete.

      Round 1:

      100 burpees

      200 big boi situps

      Encouragement tree – the man at this station encouraged good form, max effort from teammates

      200 lunges – each leg counts

      200 single leg deadlifts – each leg counts

      Round 2:

      200 plank jacks

      200 ski jumps – each leg counts

      Growth – F3 Chattanooga has had 231 FNGs this year! Unbelievable. This has far surpassed the calendar year goal. So what are we going to do with this growth? How are we going to use it? We have the first F (fitness) drawing people in like crazy, now how are we using that to feed into Fellowship and Faith opportunities? Q challenged himself and F3 Chatt leadership to examine next steps.

      Personally we each grow in different ways. We grow in fitness through F3, how are we using that to feed back into our households? We grown in skill and capability in work and school, how are we reaching out to lift up people who don’t have the skills we have? Mentorship opportunities are always available when you look to build up brothers around you.

        Mosey over to the soccer field where we count off by 4 and do an old fashioned 4 corners, which unlike Momma’s Old Fashioned Pancake Breakfast (which really doesn’t include the words “old fashioned” but for some reason I always call it that when ordering) or Uncle Hershel’s Favorite Breakfast, it sadly is not the kind of of old fashioned that will make you look like this guy:

        At each corner pax are greeted with another mouthwatering smorgasbord of exercises, the likes of such almost made me need to put on my buffet pants (if your looking to get some they are out of stock):

        The pax start out by doing 20 reps at each station and then increase by 5 each round through.  In between stations on the short side of the field pax side shuffle to the next station.  On the long side of the field pax jailbreak.  Finished up with a lap around the field indian-style.

        It was Veteran’s Day.  Spoke about the sacrifice soldiers and their families make every day around the world.  Deployments last a long time and have a huge effect.  You hear the stories about the tours of duty during Vietnam – 365 and a wake up.  The problem is that doesn’t tell the whole story.  You have all the time on the front end preparing for the deployment and all the time on the back end adjusting to being back in the world.  I try to tell the soldiers I talk to that a deployment is in reality a 3 year process – there is the year you spend getting ready to go, the year you are gone and the year you spend getting used to being back.  That’s if your lucky.  For lots of folks it takes a lot longer than a year to adjust to being home.  Some people never adjust.  There are the dudes I know that have deployed 7 or 8 times in the past 15 years.  You become consumed by it.  Your life becomes defined by firefights, rocket attacks and IEDs.  Then you come home and your life is defined by car rider lines, mortgage payments and orthodontist appointments.  To try to explain it sometimes seems incomprehensible.  The struggle to not become defined by these things that simply do not and cannot relate to normal life is a monumental feat and I believe is truly the biggest sacrifice veterans make. 

        Sleeping in bunkers night after night waiting for rockets to fall, standing on a wall for hours on end waiting for trucks to blow you up, feeling your ears ring and the earth shake, hearing the taps play….these are things no one wants to see or do, but given the choice every veteran I have ever met would be the first one there, because in the end they know if not us, then who and if not now, then when.   They know in their heart of hearts they could not live with the thought of someone else going in their place, standing in their shoes.  These are things I hope and pray my children never do or see.  These are the sacrifices veterans make each and every day.  I guarantee it.

        Theirs not reason why,

        Theirs but to do and die.
