COT

While picking random Scripture earlier this week, I came across a verse in a book that I seldom read, Zephaniah.  Interestingly, there was a verse underlined on that page:  “Seek to do what is right and to live humbly” (Zephaniah 2:3).  This really spoke to me and I thought it was very appropriate for the mission of F3.  Whether Christian or not, something can be learned from this verse.  Simply words to live by that have a huge impact.

First, seek to do what is right.  This should be our goal with each action, each and every day.  If you stick to doing what’s right, you can’t go wrong.  Even when no one is looking, seek to do what is right.  If we all did this, the impact would be enormous

Second, live humbly.  It took me a minute to decipher what was meant here.  To me, living humbly follows with one theme of F3, recognizing that you are not the end all be all, there is a higher power.  I am blessed beyond anything that I’ve ever deserved and I did nothing to earn it.  I am humbled when I think about the infinite blessings each and every day that I’ve done nothing to deserve.

Moleskin

There were lots of noxious gases being admitted during the workout.  Some may or may not have been blamed on the lady walking by us.  Ducktales mentioned the GrowRuck interest form no less than 73 times.  Several PAX need new alarm clocks.

Dave Mustaine from Megadeth has always considered his career a failure because he was kicked out of Metallica, despite the amazing things he accomplished on his own. Comparing yourself to anyone else only robs you of joy, and destroys your confidence. Instead, compare yourself to who you were, and who you want to be. You’ll never get to be another man -so be the best man that you can be. Allow yourself to grow. Appreciate who you are, and where you’re going.

Praise and Prayer request . Yesterday in Church I was reminded, at a time that I needed it, that there is life after death, and we’ll be reunited with our loved ones in the Kingdom. The Transfiguration in Mark 9:1-13 reinforces that. I personally have dealt with a lot of death of family and friends, it will happen . I know there will be a wonderful reunion in our Heavenly Kingdom. Remember there is no expiration on a birth certificate. When that time comes will you be ready?

          While 1 pax sprinted with the block 25 yards, set it down and sprinted back the other Pax would perform various exercises, when the first pax returned the next pax would sprint 25 yards, retrieve the block and sprint back. So it goes until all pax have performed the sprint. The AMRAP exercises were;

              COT

Work v. Toil. Parallel to Jack v. Sisyphus challenge — work rules are not always fair and work is often full of toil. However, we were created to work and work is good. Genesis 3:18: “…thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.” Tim Keller in his book, Every Good Endeavor points out: “Thorns & food. Work will still bear some fruit, though it will always fall short of its promise. Work will be both frustrating and fulfilling, and sometimes — just often enough — human work gives us a glimpse of the beauty and genius that might have been the routine characteristic of all our work, and what, by the grace of God, it will be again in the new heavens and new earth…” J.R.R. Tolkien (famous for penning Lord of the Rings) also wrote a much shorter book called Leaf by Niggle which talks about a painter who wanted to paint trees but only paints a few leaves. After he dies his full work of art is revealed to him and others… Keller: “Our deepest aspirations in work will come to complete fruition in God’s future…people will…taste the fruit of the project you are working on right now.” We do not always see the fruit of our labors but we can be “ok” with the toil, be faithful, joyful, and content with our work and trust God for the fruit.

BOM – continued prayers for those said, led by Care Bear.

              Moleskin

Some members of Team Jack felt the “thorns” of toil literally while locating water sources and received some badges of honor. Discussion of the correct form of holding Al Gore and whether it required hugging a tree or not and whether multitasking and inventing the internet counted or not. Everyone loves lunges. This was Skitch’s VQ.

However, it ended up being really refreshing as the three of us got to know each other a little better and the workout was tailored in a way to learn from each other. 3 is better than 1 and 1 is better than none, but having a community to fellowship with is the greatest off all.

As I am about a week late with this backblast, I did not remember all the details of the COT. It has been a busier than usual week in my world and I do apologize for this. I made a commitment and did not fulfill it. With getting older comes more responsibility to both yourself and others. Always have a plan. Without it, you plan to fail.

                  Lug out.

                    COT

“Our mission is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for men for the invigoration of male community leadership.”

                    Look around:

                    Think about your neighbors,

                    that’s who your here for;

Think about your places of worship and fellow worshipers,

                    that’s who your here for.

                    Think about our families,

                    that’s who your here for.

                    Pinch yourselves 😉

                    That’s who your here for.

Take a moment of silence, remember those who have given their lives both recently and in history past for your life, liberty, and property,

                    that’s who your here for.

                    Think about your God,

that’s who you will answer to and are here for.

                    Take another look around,

see those other men who you struggled with this morning, who you have been struggling with for many mornings?

                    That’s who your here for,

because all of the above starts right here in our circles, in our cadence, and our sweet, and fellowship and faith.

There are other things that go along with a good start that we have been talking about recently, making your bed, getting in the Word of God, and in your place of communal worship, and being an intentional part of the health of your body and community is a damn good addition.

Your own transformations and the opening this new AO should be encouragements to us all that this our efforts yield results even in the short run.

So keep it. Keep showing up! Rather it’s here or at another AO, keep those reasons you show up in mind and that alarm clock will start to turn into a trumpet calling you to another chance to steward those significant things a little better and that will spill over into other areas of your life, too.

Thanks for being here, Fellas, thanks for giving me another good reason and a great platform to get up.

Simultaneously I want to call you to commit to growth, because growth takes commitment to place. Sometimes we are called to change place and sometimes we are called to stay. We see this all around us, though that theme is particularly relevant in the Bible.

This morning I want to ask you to commit this place. Commit to showing up not only regularly but here. That doesn’t mean that you can’t ever visit other AOs or go to other AOs on other days, but it’s something we have to do be come a coherent super local group.

That is a unique thing about F3 Chattanooga, and we have seen it grow Hill City like crazy and it’s grown in Cleveland like crazy because it was a group of super locals that are committed to consistency in that place. So let’s commit to South Chattanooga at least until we are called to commit somewhere else.

It will mean being around some different men regularly, but it will also yield great places for other men to step into the circle. If we want F3 to keep growing we have to commit to consistency and to place. Find the place that is right for you, make sure that it has the right risk/tension/growth factors and commit.

Thank you for joining me today as we start that process here in South Chattanooga. I hope to see you again next week.

                    Closed with CoT and BoM.

Only had to dodge one bullet … as it lay on the ground in the parking lot. Awesome group of guys that I am so excited to get to know better as we plant and grow this old Boneyard!
