The Thang

Lions Den (aka LD) – Peanuts on Q

Mosey to the bleachers and pax counted off into pairs. Attempted music – failed (repeatedly pointed out by Pro-sec-utt-ios (definitely spelled it write this time)). And now for something completely stupid and utterly pointless, or, if you want to feel better about yourself, a Tuff Muff….

  1. Round 1: Pax 1 = Inverted Row x 75/Pax 2 = Box Jumps up bleachers. Rotate. Continue until 6 is in. Return to track and mosey to the other bleachers.
  2. Round 2: Pax 1 = Dips x 150/Pax 2 = Run the stairs up and down all four sets. Rotate. Continue until 6 is in. Return to track and mosey to the other bleachers.
  3. Round 3: Pax 1 = Bulgarian Split Squats x 200/Pax 2 = Indian Run around the track. Continue until 6 is in. Return to track and mosey to the other bleachers.
  4. Round 4: Pax 1 = Inc Merkins(started with 200 and redux to 150 for time)/Pax 2 = Box Jumps. Continue until 6 is in. Return to track and mosey to the flag.

Time

COT

There were three; each more exciting than the next.

Moleskin

  1. Prosciutto’s Musings:
    1. Crossfit exercises are not equal to the rest of the world’s exercises; in name or in execution
    2. What exactly is a squat thruster anyway?
    3. Berating and yelling about form encourages the pax to work harder and improves morale
    4. Next year’s event planning will include a “Route Q”. Some pax have indicated/shown (?) that it’s tough to remember two turns.
    5. Lillie Mae’s place brunch is the equivalent to a knock-out punch in the 10th round
  2. Sidekick’s Confessions
    1. I am a broken old man
    2. 4.3 miles is really not that far
    3. 2.1 miles after two beat downs and a 4.3 mile run, although downhill, still blows
    4. I almost shattered my face with my rock on rep 12 of the overhead press, hence the almost imperceptible inflection in my mostly gone cadence
    5. We all need to be skeptical anytime Mr. Clean evaluates something for size

3. Escobar’s mischief: shortly after leaving Lion’s Den, I was running alongside Fissure and made a few statements/questions. After talking for a minute, Fissure stated, “I don’t like to talk when I’m running. I hate running and by not talking it helps me get through it.” So I proceeded to carry on a conversation the rest of the run, trying to see if he would just ignore me or run away. He did neither.

Four cones marked the course for suicides. PAX begin at cone 1 with 1 burpee, proceed to cone 2 for 2 burpees. Return to Cone 1 and repeat singular burpee moving on to Cone 3 for 3 burpees. This same pattern continues to cone 4 for 4 burpees concluding with a burpee at the finish line. Each burpeecide round is a total of 13 burpees.

PAX counted off by twos. Ones ran the burpeecide first while the second group performed an exercise (amrap) until all PAX completed their burpeecide. Once complete the groups switch places.

Thought for the day: Lamentations 3:22-23 – “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” We all wake up each day with challenges, burdens, anxieties, and cares. Often these are the easiest things to see and think about. But we are told that there are new mercies every morning, even in the midst of trials and sometimes in the trials. Encouraged the PAX to think about the everyday new mercies. May we have eyes to see them and hearts to give thanks for them.

        Moleskin

A man learns a lot when doing burpees alongside others and hears even more. YHC was overwhelmed with the abundant joy and gratitude that came from all corners each time another burpeecide round was announced. Truly humbled. These are indeed grateful men. There was great sadness in the gloom when we ran out of time and only completed five of the ten rounds planned. World War I was filmed on an iPhone. Lots of mumble chatter during monkey-humpers. Ones never really knows where to look during monkey-humpers. Tip: don’t look down…it can get quite dizzy. One PAX’s parents were disappointed in having a boy. This came out during a reenactment of the Miracle on Ice. Not sure the connection, but I think his parents are pleased with the way things ended up, and not just for the USA Hockey team; Smackdown for sure is. Last night’s snacks are not savory in the morning. There is a lesson there.

I missed some time, not a lot, but plenty enough.  I took time away to adjust some things and improve my character.  I left to fix some things I even blamed on F3. Here is the fact of the matter: I got butthurt. I hit a tailspin. I was headed into a darkness.

So, what fixed it and why am I here leading today?

People often say “God will never give you something you cannot handle”, BUT I completely disagree.  Yes, you heard that right. I disagree.

BECAUSE, the devil will give you plenty of things you cannot handle, BUT you will never get something that GOD can’t handle.  Let Go. Want to lead? Learn to relinquish control. Learn to fail and learn. Learn to learn. Learn to love. Learn to love yourself, your family, your friends, your enemies (it’s called forgiveness), BUT most of all GOD.

P.S. — Let this be my first effort to make amends with the men of F3 who placed trust in me in which I betrayed or know me as only a Slack icon.

                COT

I encouraged the men to take time to pour themselves into the lives of others, in whatever way that looks. Give to others with your time and efforts, but also acknowledge the ones around you that are pouring out their efforts for you. Thank those people. We don’t say “Thanks” nearly enough. This represents the 3rd F of F3. Whether it be the Homeless Ministry, coaching a team, or involvement within your church, do something for the benefit of others. (This lead to a small discussion on the Faith part of F3, which we know from the founders is considered the Dynamite.) Making an effort to improve the lives of others, really does have an explosive impact on all involved.

                Ah, where do I begin…

John Doe was quick to find an opportunity to ask how long it took me to plan this workout since I asked him the same thing a week prior when he planned a workout that consisted of burpees for 40 minutes. My response was at least twice as long as you, but hindsight being 20/20, I had 18 different exercises, so at least 18 times longer that you is what I should have noted.

9Volt regarding Pull-ups: “we don’t do enough of those”. No we don’t.

I honored Clothespin’s request for Core Work (nearly 2 weeks after the request). The only mumble chatter during this work was deep breathing and grunting. We don’t do enough of core work either.

I almost got a solo 5k in before the workout (which was only 2 miles)

We got so caught-up in our discussion of 3rd F that we didn’t realize we forgot to end the COT with a prayer (pitiful) until we reached our cars. But have no fear, our 3rd F wonton, John Doe, made sure we got it in before anyone escaped.

                News

None discussed. Remember, we almost forgot to pray.
